About The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church welcomes you and invites you to live your faith intensely and actively. St. James Church is a bilingual and bicultural congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of California that has served the Oakland community both pastorally and spiritually since 1858.

The Baptismal Covenant guides our life as Christians. An important part of our life as a parish is the ongoing work of calling one another into lives of greater faith and practice.

Our worship, which is drawn from the Anglican Common Prayer tradition, takes us on a yearly journey of scripture readings, formal written prayers, psalms, and hymns that recount the story of God’s saving love and grace incarnate in Jesus Christ. The Eucharist (Holy Communion) is the center of our worship experience.
